Tim Moolhuijsen
Why should you hire me to improve your sustainability performance?
There is two ways to answer this question, a short way and a long way. Although the long one is better, here is the short one first.
The short answer:
- I am very passionate about sustainability.
- 5 years of detailed academic knowledge and 4 years of professional experience on the subject where I have worked on many different sustainability challenges companies face.
- I acknowledge the business benefits of doing sustainability work and can leverage those.
- You will hear tons of funny puns and bad jokes from me when we work together.
- I am a straightforward person and good at developing pragmatic solutions.
- Good at stakeholder management (essential in this type of work).
and the long answer:
In the first year of high school I had to give a presentation about “my hero”. However, I did not really have a hero yet, so I googled “Heroes” and “Impressive people”. Finally, the Google algorithm gave me Al Gore who had just released his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth“, so I watched it.
After this and additional research, I was convinced we were walking into a trap blindfolded so I chose him as my hero. Of course this was #nerdalert back then, most other kids went with some rapper or DJ Tiësto. Nevertheless my passion was born.
After high school and a year in Paris, I moved back to Amsterdam and started studying Earth Science. Climate change was by now in the public debate, but people were still skeptical. Nevertheless, my purpose remained clear, so for my masters I went to study Environmental Engineering in Sweden, a country that was a frontrunner in sustainability. During this time I discovered technical solutions to environmental problems. I also learned that humans only act when an issue is right in front of them, not when the issue is somewhere in the distance
A couple years later and the issue really is in our faces – I’m sitting here with a ventilator to try and keep it cool. In fact, the problem has been so clear that with my unorthodox degree I was able to get a job at Deloitte in 2020, who were just starting up their sustainability team.
I joined the team when there were 9 colleagues, now there are over 100. My time at Deloitte allowed me to truly understand professional services and further develop my technical knowledge. However, I have always had a tendency to be independent and have dreamt of being my own boss, so I started my own freelance firm.
Currently it is a one man firm, but the goal is to expand. My mission is to help re-stabilize our world and spread knowledge and capabilities so that others can do their part as well. I hope this convinces you to reach out, you can find my contact details below. In addition, it it also wise to consider the following:
Although sustainability is about saving the planet , there are plenty of opportunities for your organization in the process. By acting now you can secure your organization’s future and unlock its sustainability potential.
